Sierra Leone: police invites ADP leader for questioning on Monday

The leader of the ADP party, Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray is invited for questioning at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for comments he made on 98.1 Democracy Radio and AYV.

Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray: embattled

The investigation of the ADP leader has again sparked widespread condemnation of the government and the administration’s use of the police to crack down on critiques.

A week ago a member of the civil society was arrested and detained at the police headquarters for leading a demonstration against the increase of fuel price. Public outcry forced the police to release Edmond Abu.

Sources say the ADP leader’s comments on 98.1 Democracy Radio are deemed to be a violation of the Public Order Act.

Tamba Borbor:

A truckload of Police headed by Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Ibrahima Jah came to the residence of ADP’s Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray today Sunday July 22, 2018 at around 2pm to arrest the leader and Chairman in relation to the interviews he did last Friday on Radio Democracy 98.1 and AYV TV.

Kamarainba requested a warrant of arrest which AIG Ibrahim Jah failed to produce.

The AIG later informed the ADP Leader and Chairman to report at the CID Headquarters tomorrow Monday 23rd July 2018, at 11am.

Journalists and human rights campaigners in the country have again challenged the actions of the government and police.

Thomas Josephus Dixon:

If it is true that the Police decided to invite opposition #ADPLeaderKamarainba for his comments on radio and television on Bio’s 100 days, then it is bad for Sierra Leone’s democracy.

It is also bad for a President who is trying to build an already struggling democratic credential.

We don’t need a leader that is powerful beyond critics, we want a leader that will accept criticism and work on them.

I must say that the democratic credential of President Bio is at low point, looking at the use of police to force opposition MPs out of the well, arresting of an activist, Edmond Abu and now the unwarranted arrest of #ADPKamarainbaMansaray

Gunther AB Daramy:

Freedom of Expression under attack….Leave Mohamed Kamariamba Mansaray alone.
Gone are the days of jackboot.
